Health Ministry
As spiritual beings, our physical health affects our spiritual health and vice versa. St. Paul has termed our bodies as “God’s temples” (1 Corinthians 3:16). We therefore are stewards, custodians, managers of God’s property: ourselves, our bodies, minds, and spirits. When we honor our bodies and those of others, we are honoring God and God’s good creation.
The Health Ministry strives to connect people with God by:
- Promoting a holistic approach to health maintenance
- Broadening knowledge of health issues specific to the African American community
- Coordinating and implementing regular ministry activities
- Presenting education forums which empower individuals to take charge of their healthcare
- Providing individual and group meal plan counseling that emphasizes health eating.
- Providing resources and classes to improve physical and mental health
- Supporting youth mentor programs for those interested in health professions
- Annually offering the Bessie Thompson-Fleming Health Professionals Scholarship to a St. James member enrolled in an accredited nursing or health profession related program.
